Welcome back to Grapplers Graveyard. This week we went out and bought the Shogun Ultra Lightweight BJJ Gi directly from Amazon. This gi sits at about $170 at the time of writing this post and we believe that it was a good addition to the collection that we are building out. There were some things we did not like about this Gi that will be touched on both in our review video as well as this post, so stick around to hear those points!
On the Graveyard Scale Shogun BJJ Ultralight-weight Gi is being given a 7.3 out of 10
Shogun BJJ Ultra Lightweight Gi
The Shogun BJJ Gi comes in three different colorways to choose from that are all genuinely cool as hell. I have to say this is by far the coolest designed Gi on the market and I love the artwork on the inside of the Gi. At first, I was worried that the material on the inside would fade after some use and some time spent outside to airdry but to my surprise, the material has held up well and still looks/feels the way it did when I first bought it.
I think if I were to go back and rebuy this Gi I would buy the white Gi rather than the black (style preference) and get one size bigger.
Sizing seems to be the biggest issue that I have when it comes to finding a good Gi these days. No one seems to be doing it right. I am 5’10 and 160 lbs and every sizing chart I read says I would fit into their A1 and I have yet to run into a size chart that has told the truth on this statement. Unfortunately, Shogun did drop the ball in this category but many others seem to be having the same issue.
How it Feels
The Gi itself feels amazing to wear. I am based out of Arizona and the weather is starting to get a bit warmer. I strictly train at the 6 am classes these days but I noticed that when I wore this Gi I was noticeably hotter while rolling around in it. I don’t know if that was from my gym, the weather, or the fact that this gi has a thicker liner on the inside of it. Something I noticed and that i thought I should share.
Do I think this Gi was Worth it?
I would say yes. Just go in knowing that you may not be able to compete in this Gi if you get the wrong size (like me) and know that it may be a bit warmer to train in because of the liner.
No doubt in my mind that this is one of the nicest looking Gi’s on the market. The artwork is 10/10
Packaging
The Gi comes in this nice packaging that is unlike most other companies that have gear. It is like a nice quality Gi bag that could be used for a number of things after you open up the product. I thought this was a nice little touch to talk about in the post.
