Gold BJJ Aeroweave Gi Review: Best Light Weight BJJ Gi

Gold BJJ Gi Review

Hey Everyone! We are back again with another gear review this time we got our hands on some BJJ Gi’s! The Aeroweave BJJ Gi from Gold BJJ is one of our highest rated BJJ Gi’s on our list and we will contiune to recommend people to buy them.

We have helped about 400+ people in 2025 pick up the gear based on our reviews of the products. Not only do we love the Gi but hundreds also agree with us!

As always, we review with a scale that we use internally known as the Graveyard Scale (here) this is a scale that we use to help us rate the gear that we get our hands on from 1 – 10. For BJJ Gis, our main review criteria are: Fit & Comfort, Mobility & Weight, Shrinkage & Maintenance, Durability & Construction, and Price/Value.

Reminder: We are on a mission to help people find the best combat sports gear across categories. Our goal is to review a list that consists of 8 to 12 more Gis and share our thoughts to the following Reddit communities r/fightgear, r/grapplersgraveyard, r/bjj and r/jiujitsu.

Gold BJJ Aeroweave Gi Review

As of December 11th, 2025, Gold BJJ has two types of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Gis that they sell to people:
  1. Competition Gi
  2. Aeroweave Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Gi

Obviously this review is for the Gold BJJ AeroWeave Gi but we will get our hands on the Competition Gi to be able to give you a full-fledged idea of how we feel about Gold BJJ’s products.

At the end of the day Gold BJJ is the number one rated Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi company that we have on our best Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi list. We love this product. We stand behind it and have helped sell over 500 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gis in 2025 based off of our reviews. Not only do we love them but other people love them a lot.

This is the only Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gi that I have used that has actually lived up to the lightweight claim. It sits at about 180 GSM so ultimately it would not be IBJJF competition approved. That’s why they introduced their new competition gi for those that compete.

The Aeroweave gi is probably best for those that are looking for a lightweight gi to train in, casual Jiu Jitsu consumers, and those that need a light gi for the summer time. This is the best thing for that.

ONLY BJJ Gi that Lives up to the Lightweight Claim

Light Gi’s just make me feel more athletic and cooler on the mats. When you feel light you just move a little bit easier. If you want to train in a gi that is big and heavy be our guest, but for us it has to be lightweight. Gold BJJ Gis are an excellent choice for a purchase if you are in the market to buy a gi! They have two types (competition Gi and Aeroweave Gi) in multiple colors ranging from white, blue, grey, or black!

  • Durable and has lasted us 2 years without a single tear

Fit & Comfort (1.6/2)

Overall, the gi fits true to size. It comes pre-shrunk, and after nearly two years of training in it, mine hasn’t noticeably shrunk at all. Just use the size chart on their site and you’ll be good to go. What really stands out is how comfortable it is during long rolling sessions. When the room heats up and you’re deep into rounds, the lighter build and thinner weave help keep you cool instead of cooking you alive. It breathes well, never feels heavy, and doesn’t add to that “I’m about to pass out” feeling some thicker gis create.

The collar was a little stiff out of the bag, but like most high-quality gis, it softened up over time. From construction to fit to how it actually feels on the body, it’s genuinely one of my favorite lightweight options to train in.

  • Fits well and does not shrink all too much – had it for over two years and gained 20 lbs since we bought it and it still fits perfectly
  • You don’t really know what you are missing till you train in a gi this light

Mobility & Weight (2/2)

When I’m rolling in this gi, there’s zero restriction in my movement. It never feels heavy or clunky — which makes sense, because it’s easily one of the lightest gis on the market. And the crazy part is… it actually lives up to the claims. Plenty of brands say they make a lightweight gi, but this is the only one I’ve tested that truly delivers on that promise. As far as lightweight BJJ gis go, this one is the clear leader.

  • Breathable and very light sitting at 180 gsm
  • Best BJJ Gi for places that are very warm in the summertime

Shrinkage & Maintenance (2/2)

I’ve had this Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gi for about two years now, and honestly, it’s held up way better than I expected. It barely shrank — seriously, way less than most gis and it’s proven itself in terms of durability over time.

It comes pretty much pre-shrunk, so whatever fit you get on day one is basically the fit you’ll have long-term. Maintenance is simple too. Just wash it in cold water and hang-dry it. Not only does that keep the gi from shrinking, but it also saves you from dealing with any nasty odors that come from leaving gear in the dryer or washer too long.

  • two years no shrinkage – came preshrunk

Durability & Construction (2/2)

The stitching on the Aeroweave is honestly one of the reasons this gi has held up as long as it has for me. Everything is reinforced where it needs to be and it’s triple-stitched throughout. After two years of rolling, tugging, getting yanked on, and washing, nothing has popped or loosened. It’s lightweight, but it doesn’t feel fragile. They did a good job balancing durability and comfort.

For such a lightweight gi, the collar is surprisingly tough. It hasn’t curled, softened, or gotten chewed up from constant grip fighting the way some cheaper lightweight gis do.

No peeling, no weird cracking, and no frayed edges. Gold BJJ’s patches and embroidery tend to hold up well, and this gi is no different. Everything has stayed clean and intact even with regular washing.

  • Two years owning this BJJ gi and no tears
  • Most lightweight gi’s cannot stand with the durability of the product offered by Gold BJJ

Price & Value (2/2)

if you are looking for a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gi that you can both potentially compete in and train in, this is going to be the best option that you have.

It’s sitting at $129, we think this s a steal.

You could buy it both on their website as well as on Amazon so you can get it shipped directly to you. It’s ultimately the highest rated gi on Grappler’s Graveyard so bar none we really believe that the price and the value match and this is an exceptional buy if you end up going with it

Lightweight Gis Makes Breaking Grips Difficult

The weight of a Gi can affect the ability to break grips in a couple of ways.

Firstly, a heavier Gi can provide more resistance when an opponent grabs onto it, making it easier to generate leverage and break free from their grip. Conversely, a lightweight Gi may not offer as much resistance, which means that it may be easier for an opponent to maintain a grip on it.

However, it’s important to note that breaking grips in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu involves more than just relying on the weight of the Gi. Proper technique, leverage, and grip-fighting skills play significant roles in breaking grips effectively.

Skilled practitioners can still break grips regardless of the weight of their Gi.

Who Would I Recommend this Gi to?

Personally we have helped sell over 500 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi’s from Gold BJJ. We would recommend this Gi for anybody that casually trains Jiu Jitsu or to those who have trained or train very often and end up competing. These Gi’s are extremely lightweight, they’re perfect for hot weather, and they’re super affordable for what they have to offer.

We love buying new gear and hope to continue buying and testing out new products that come our way.
