Hey Everyone! We are back again with another gear review this time we got our hands on some BJJ Gi’s. This week we reviewed the Origin Pearl Weave Atleta Competition Brazilian Jitsu Gi.
As always, we review with a scale that we use internally known as the Graveyard Scale (here) this is a scale that we use to help us rate the gear that we get our hands on from 1 – 10. For BJJ Gis, our main review criteria are: Fit & Comfort, Mobility & Weight, Shrinkage & Maintenance, Durability & Construction, and Price/Value.
It completely blew past our expectations. We rarely see products that can hang with the likes of Future Kimonos or Gold BJJ, but this one earned its spot in that tier. I genuinely love this gi and think every grappler should have at least one Origin product in their rotation. On the Graveyard Scale, this one scores a strong 9.5 out of 10 — well deserved. This is a big deal because for the first time in over a year we have had a Gi crack into the top 5 and get a higher rating than the Future Kimonos Gi that I still LOVE to train in.
Reminder: We are on a mission to help people find the best combat sports gear across categories. Our goal is to review a list that consists of 8 to 12 more Gis and share our thoughts to the following Reddit communities r/fightgear, r/grapplersgraveyard, r/bjj and r/jiujitsu.

Overview of the Origin Atleta BJJ Gi
The Origin Atleta Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Gi is one of those rare gis that checks all the boxes; comfort, quality, and performance. It fits true to size right out of the bag; for someone like me who usually wears an A1L, the A2 fit perfectly with no riding up or awkward length.
The quality of the product stands out immediately — you can tell Origin takes pride in their work. The material feels premium against the skin, and the collar has that perfect balance of softness and structure, breaking in just enough after a few sessions. It’s a gi that feels durable yet comfortable enough for long training days, and while it sits at a higher price point, it genuinely earns it through build quality and feel.
Whether you’re training casually or a hardcore competitor looking for something reliable, this is a gi that delivers on every front.

Fit & Comfort (1.9/ 2)
The Origin Atleta Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Gi fits true to size. For brands that don’t offer in-between sizes like A1L, I usually go with an A2 — and this one fits perfectly. Not too long, not too short, and it stays in place without riding up during rolls. It’s easily one of the most comfortable gis I own. Maybe that’s because it’s still new, or maybe it’s just that the material really is a cut above the rest — either way, you can feel the quality.
Origin clearly takes pride in how they build their products, and it shows here. The collar feels soft and comfortable — not overly stiff or thick — and it breaks in quickly after a few sessions. Overall, I’d give this gi a very high rating for both fit and comfort.
-
Fits true to size — the A2 feels perfect with no riding up or awkward length; easily one of the most comfortable gis I’ve worn.
-
Premium build quality — soft collar, smooth material, and a clear attention to detail that makes the gi stand out from most others.

Mobility & Weight (2/2)
This gi doesn’t feel restrictive or heavy at all. Even though it sits at 380 GSM, slightly on the heavier end of what I usually train in. I still move naturally and it never felt bulky while I was rolling on the mats.
I typically prefer lightweight gis that don’t sacrifice durability, which is why I also picked up their Nomad Gi for comparison. I’ve been pairing this one with my Gold BJJ gi, and honestly, it holds up great. Despite being competition-weight, it feels light when rolling, super comfortable, and completely unrestrictive. For the price, I think it’s an incredible product; zero complaints about how it feels on the mat.
Shrinkage & Maintenance (1.7/2)
The gi came pre-shrunk, and I didn’t notice any shrinkage after the first wash or dry — it held its shape perfectly. I usually wear an A1L because I’ve got longer arms, but I went with an A2 here. It’s a little longer than ideal, but honestly nothing worth complaining about.
When I first opened the bag, there was a slight odor — probably from manufacturing or packaging — so I’d definitely recommend washing it right away before wearing. After that, no issues at all. It’s super easy to maintain: just machine wash cold, hang dry, and avoid the dryer to keep the fit consistent. The cut has stayed the same after multiple washes, so you can expect it to look and feel the same every time you roll.
Durability & Construction (2/2)
When it comes to durability and construction, this gi is top-tier. Being made in the USA, the build quality really stands out — everything from the stitching to the material feels premium.
The seams are reinforced and clean, giving it a sturdy feel without adding stiffness. The collar is noticeably softer than many other gis I’ve trained in, but still firm enough to hold its shape and resist wear over time. The material itself feels great on the skin — smooth, durable, and built to last. Honestly, this is one of those gis that feels like it could easily hold up for years of hard training, maybe even all the way to black belt.
- Built in the USA with premium materials, reinforced stitching, smooth fabric, and a sturdy yet comfortable feel that holds up through years of training.
- Soft but durable collar and high-quality construction that resists wear, making it a gi you could easily use all the way to black belt.
Price & Value (1.9/2)
This gi is absolutely worth the price compared to others in its range. We rated it very high on our scale — in fact, it’s currently the second-highest-ranked gi on our entire list, and it’s been a long time since anything climbed that high. While it’s priced slightly above some of the other options, the quality, comfort, and overall feel make it well worth it. I’d have no problem recommending this gi to anyone who trains Jiu-Jitsu.
Final Rating For the Origin Atleta BJJ Gi ( 9.5 / 10 )
Overall, I really love this gi. You honestly can’t go wrong with it — it feels great on the body and holds up well in every setting. Since it’s IBJJF-approved, you can wear it to compete, train hard, or just roll casually without any issues. It’s one of those gis that just does everything right.
