Trap x Jitsu BJJ Short Review

Trap X Jistu BJJ Shorts Review

Hey Everyone! We are back again with another gear review. Today, we’re taking a closer look at the NoGi BJJ Shorts from Trap X Jitsu an up and coming combats sports brand based right here in Phoenix, AZ!

Unlike heavier gear categories where we use the full Graveyard Scale (1–10), rash guards and shorts are evaluated with our Simple Verdict System. These items usually have subtle differences that don’t justify hard numerical scoring, so this framework keeps reviews easy to read and more helpful for everyday athletes.

Reminder: We are on a mission to help people find the best combat sports gear across categories. We share a lot of our thoughts on gear in the following Reddit communities r/fightgear, r/grapplersgraveyard, r/bjj and r/jiujitsu so be sure to be a part of those communities.

Overview of the Trap X Jitsu No-Gi BJJ Shorts

Trap X Jitsu is a newer combat-sports brand coming out of Phoenix, and after testing their no-gi shorts, we walked away really impressed.

The design options are some of the coolest we’ve seen, the fit is true to size, and the stretch panels in the groin and thigh area make a noticeable difference during hard rolls. They’re breathable, comfortable, and built with thoughtful details that show these guys actually train.

Yes, the price is a little higher than other brands but between the durability, the performance, and the design quality, it feels justified. After a few sessions, these quickly became one of our go-to pairs, and Trap X Jitsu is absolutely a brand we’ll keep supporting.

Video Review: coming soon

Pros

  • Design choice is abundant; cool themes and cool looks
  • Fit well, breathable, and have stretch where it is needed
  • Local brand is a huge plus!
  • Fits true to size (whatever your pants waist size is)

Cons

  • More expensive than other brands

Suggestion:

  • Wish they had the pairs I wanted when I bought them in stock (good problem for them to have thought)

Category Breakdown

Fit & Comfort

I’m a 32” waist and went with a size large, and the fit is spot-on. When my arms are at my sides, the shorts hit right at fingertip length clean, functional, and perfect for no-gi training.

  • True to waist pant size
  • Very comfy and great all around pair of shorts that can be worn as daily’s
  • When you put your arms to your side, they stop at finger height

Performance (Sweat Management or Mobility)

Overall, we’ve only put a few training sessions into these shorts so far, but honestly—no complaints. They’re breathable, the fabric feels great against the skin, and they move exactly the way you want during hard rolls. The stretch panels in the groin and thigh area make a big difference, letting you move freely without any pulling or restriction.

On the mats, you feel mobile and put-together.

  • Breathable, stretchy fabric moves naturally during rolls
  • No restriction, no bunching, full range of mobility

Durability & Materials

One thing every good pair of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu shorts needs is a stretchy, reactive material through the groin and thigh area — and Trap X Jitsu absolutely nails this. They clearly paid attention to the details.

The shorts move with you, not against you, and they hold up when the rounds get hard and the pace gets chaotic. You can tell these were built with longevity and serious training in mind. From the design choices to the durability of the fabric, everything feels intentional and built for athletes who actually train.

  • Designed with a flexible, reactive groin and thigh panel so the shorts move naturally during intense rolls.
  • Built with durability and thoughtful design choices, making them reliable for long-term, hard no-gi training.

Design & Value

Of all the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu shorts that we’ve tried to this point, Trap X Jitsu definitely has the best branding and appeal in our personal opinion. Their designs push the limits. They’re cool looking. The shorts feel great and overall I think I’m getting my money’s worth both from wearing the product as well as how it looks and makes me feel.

it feels like they go above and beyond in terms of their design choices and have subtle touches to the shorts that make them excellent options that will last a long time and are built to last.

  • Excellent choices for designs
  • Feels like I am getting my moneys worth

Final Verdict for the Trapjitsu BJJ/Grappling Shorts

Verdict:

Trapjitsu BJJ Shorts are for sure a Graveyard Pick!

Would I Buy It Again?

Yes – the design on these shorts are SICK!!! I wish I had the camo pair that I originally wanted but when I tried buying they ran out of supply due ot the holidays. Lots of people love their gear, the way they feel and the design choices they come up with.

I will be buying another pair of these grappling shorts. The designs are awesome, they have a cool lookbook on their site for previous looks and I imagine future ones that they come up with.

Alternatives and Recommendations

  • Gold BJJ Shorts – Review
  • Future Kimonos – Review
  • Moya – Review

Cost and Value

Overall, their gear is a bit more pricey compared to other options that are out there but I think it is worth it for the design choice you get access to and the overall quality of the products. These are my first time having a shorter pair of BJJ shorts that show more thigh then I am used to but after the initial test and walk around, these have become my go to shorts to gravitate towards.

I will be a long time customer of this brand, also a super cool touch that they are a local brand to my city!
