Gold BJJ Grappling & BJJ Shorts Review

Gold BJJ Grappling BJJ Shorts review

Hey Everyone! We are back again with another gear review. Today, we’re taking a closer look at the Camo Gold BJJ Grappling Shorts. Unlike heavier gear categories where we use the full Graveyard Scale (1–10), rash guards and shorts are evaluated with our Simple Verdict System. These items usually have subtle differences that don’t justify hard numerical scoring, so this framework keeps reviews easy to read and more helpful for everyday athletes.

Reminder: We are on a mission to help people find the best combat sports gear across categories. We share a lot of our thoughts on gear in the following Reddit communities r/fightgear, r/grapplersgraveyard, r/bjj and r/jiujitsu so be sure to be a part of those communities.

Overview of the Gold BJJ Grappling Shorts

The Gold BJJ Camo Grappling Shorts sit in a very competitive spot in the market, offering a balance of reliability, comfort, and long-term usability without pushing into the higher price tiers most brands aim for.

What stands out most is how easy they are to keep in rotation. These are the kind of shorts you do not have to think twice about wearing. They work across different types of training, hold up over time, and maintain their feel even after repeated sessions.

The slightly longer cut and clean camo design give them a distinct look compared to more standard options, while still staying practical for everyday use.

If I had to sum them up simply, these are dependable, well-rounded grappling shorts that quietly outperform expectations and end up becoming a regular go-to without much effort.

Category Breakdown

Fit & Comfort

These shorts fit true to size. I went with a medium, which is my usual, and they fit exactly how I expected.

The cut is solid, sitting at around 7 inches with a slight taper on the sides that gives a clean athletic look without feeling restrictive. One thing I noticed is that they don’t have that extra stretchy panel in the inner thigh/groin area like some other brands, but honestly, they still perform well without it.

During full training sessions, they feel great. The materials are high quality, and there’s really nothing to complain about in terms of comfort. To sum it all up, I would even sleep comfortably in these shorts

Why it matters: Fit determines how shorts feel during drilling, rolling, and long sessions. Mobility and comfort directly affect performance.

Quick Take:

  • True-to-size fit with a clean, slightly longer cut
  • Comfortable for extended sessions with no restriction

Performance (Sweat Management or Mobility)

These shorts hold up really well during live rolling. They stay in place, and I never find myself needing to constantly adjust them mid-roll.

What stands out most is how well they move with your body. They feel athletic without being too light or too heavy. Whether you’re scrambling, shooting, or transitioning, they keep up with you.

Why it matters: Performance reflects how the gear handles real training, movement, breathability, and stability all play a role.

Quick Take:

  • Stays in place during intense rolling
  • Moves naturally with your body during explosive movements

Durability & Materials

After around 20 sessions, including washes and air drying, these shorts still look brand new. There’s virtually no pilling, fading, or wear.

The waistband hasn’t lost any elasticity either, which is a big plus because that’s usually where cheaper shorts start to fail.

Why it matters: Grappling shorts go through constant stress. Strong materials and construction mean longer lifespan.

Quick Take:

  • Minimal wear even after repeated use
  • Waistband maintains shape and elasticity

Design & Value

The camo gray colorway looks even better in person. It’s clean, modern, and stands out without being flashy.

One underrated detail is the interior waistband with the etched slogan, it adds a premium feel that you don’t always see in this price range.

Speaking of price, these sit around $44–$45, which actually puts them on the more affordable side compared to many BJJ shorts pushing $60+. For what you’re getting, the value is excellent.

Why it matters: Design and value determine whether gear is worth keeping in your rotation long-term.

Quick Take:

  • Clean camo design with premium detailing
  • Strong value compared to higher-priced competitors

Final Verdict for the Gold BJJ Grappling Shorts

Verdict:

Graveyard Pick

These are one of only two pairs of shorts that I consistently rotate (alongside TrapX). They’ve even become a go-to for gym sessions outside of grappling.

Would I Buy It Again?

Yes

The Gold BJJ Camo Grappling Shorts are best suited for no-gi grapplers, MMA fighters, and anyone who wants reliable, comfortable shorts that perform under pressure.

They strike a great balance between comfort, durability, and mobility. Even without some of the extra stretch panels you see in other brands, they still deliver where it matters.

Compared to other shorts I’ve used, these sit right near the top in terms of overall performance and value. They’ve earned a permanent spot in my rotation.

Alternatives and Recommendations

One of the only shorts competing directly with these in my rotation. Great fit and performance.
  • Future Kimonos – Graveyard Pick
Premium feel with standout designs and high-end materials.
