Martial arts have been practiced for thousands of years, and in recent decades, the popularity of jiu-jitsu and mixed martial arts (MMA) has skyrocketed. While some may view these combat sports as violent or dangerous, there are actually many reasons why the rise of jiu-jitsu and MMA is a positive thing for the world. From building confidence and discipline to promoting physical health and inclusivity, these martial arts offer a range of benefits for individuals and society as a whole. In this post, we’ll explore some of the many reasons why the growing popularity of jiu-jitsu and MMA is a good thing, and why these sports are here to stay.
Building Confidence and Discipline: How Jiu-Jitsu and MMA Can Benefit You
Martial arts in general is a great way to build up your confidence and provide you with some structure to your life. We look at jiu-jitsu, MMA, and other martial arts like wrestling as one of the greatest self-improvement tools on the planet because it encompasses so many aspects that we try to find in other places.
Everything you need to make your life better overall can be found as a principle within the four walls of a jiu-jitsu academy. We are a living testament of this fact. I Know if can be hard to believe a stranger on the internet trying to convince you that chocking people out and putting ourselves through grueling training sessions has been a massive positive in our life but if you stay with me and keep an open mind I hope that by the end of this article you may leave convinced otherwise.
Almost every aspect of our well-being has been improved thanks to an Instagram Ad we received about a local BJJ school looking to expand its reach and create leaders in the community.
Since starting our journey we have gotten into the best shape of our lives (seriously people have noticed), received an overwhelming sense of clarity, and built a truly amazing life through the discipline we have applied outside of the gym’s four walls.

A Mind-Body Connection: How Martial Arts Can Improve Your Mental Health
Jiu-jitsu and MMA are not just sports. They are mental exercises that push us to become better versions of ourselves, something that everyone needs no matter what stage of life you are in.
When you are rolling on the mats with training partners nothing else matters. If you lose focus there is a direct consequence to that action (ie. you get choked by a 110 lbs female who can and will kick your ass). This is both terrifying (in the beginning) but also liberating.
If you are anything like you have a mind that just will not shut up. A million things course through my brain a day. From running a business to trying to stay in touch with family, have a social life, stress about work, the list just keeps piling on at times but when you train, all that goes out the window.
Empowering Women: Jiu Jitsu and MMA as Tools for Self-Defense
Many people start for various reasons.
Some start to get into better shape and lose weight.
Some want to be able to protect themselves if something bad were to happen. All of these are viable reasons to just take the leap! Critics will try to say that Jiu-jitsu or MMA does not work and that it is not an effective martial art but from someone who has first-hand experience both in street fights, boxing, and now BJJ, we would argue it is the most effective way to protect yourself.
The fact of the matter is that 99% of people will never take the time to learn about the benefits of jiu-jitsu or take the leap of trying it out for themselves. That puts those that do train regularly at a huge advantage. Most people would have no idea what to do if they got into a fight with someone but that is not the case for someone who trains BJJ.

Breaking Down Barriers: The Inclusive Community of Jiu-Jitsu and MMA
ONe thing that stood out most to us when we first started training was the feeling of inclusivity within the gym. Our day-to-day life at work always spews this nonsense of breaking down barriers but on a fundamental level I believe they are doing it wrong when compared to what you can experience within the four walls of a jiu-jitsu gym.
We are all here because we want to be the best version of ourselves, not for a job. No one is forcing you to train. When everyone is in the same room working towards their own vision with an underlying common goal, youtube the recipe for a truly spectacular community.
The world needs jiu-jitsu and the idea of it being a massive benefit to the world is spreading like wildfire.
Promoting Physical Health: The Fitness Benefits of Jiu Jitsu and MMA
Clear as day, jiu-jitsu and MMA will get you into the best shape of your life.
We have seen too many lives changed in our short period of training to think or be told otherwise. If you want to lose weight, martial arts is for you and is probably the most fun way to shed it all off.
Challenging Yourself: The Personal Growth Opportunities in Martial Arts
We feel the world lost itself because everything became too easy over the past decade. As humans we evolved from challenging conditions and that is how we ended up where we are today. Human beings are amazing creatures who have created a world where I can communicate to millions of people at a time through a screen sitting at a desk wherever I can find wifi. That idea is UNHEARD OF!!! It truly is amazing.
BUT, those hard times are what lead to this. Now the game has flipped. We have to be responsible for our personal growth and actively seek out challenging things to pursue so that we too can live amazing lives, create amazing things, and pass on what our ancestors gave to us.
