Common Types of Wounds for Grapplers

Mens clear skin is often disrupted by wounds like:

  • Acne scars
  • Dark spots
  • Cuts and scrapes

Many of these can be prevented or fixed with a healthy diet and good skincare routine.

How to Heal Cuts on Face Fast

The healing process of your skin’s barrier function is impacted by:

  • A balanced diet
  • Getting enough sleep
  • Using proper skincare products for your skin type

Remember, if you have skin problems, you should always check your diet and lifestyle first before moving onto skincare!

Diet

A balanced diet is not just about your macronutrients (fats, carbohydrates, and protein). In fact, there are certain foods that can help protect your skin barrier.

What to Eat

A diet for clear skin that recovers from wounds quickly includes:

  • Vitamin C (citrus fruits)
  • Zinc (seafood and red meat)
  • Healthy fats (natural oils from seafood, avocados, etc.)

You’ll never get clearer skin than when you’re eating a great diet with these foods!

What Not to Eat

A healthy diet for clear skin also includes leaving out junk like alcohol and sugar.

Plus, these foods slow down wound healing and contribute to acne breakouts. So, be sure to avoid them to keep your skin clear.

Clear Skin for Men: Wound Healing & Skincare Routine

A great skincare routine to promote wound healing is individualized based on everyone’s skin types. However, the common steps to follow include:

  1. Cleanser
  2. Toner or serum (optional but keeps your skin hydrated)
  3. Moisturizer
  4. Occlusive (optional but great for wound healing)

Wash Your Face

It would help if you regularly washed your face after exercise to get clear skin.

Specifically, you need a cleanser to get rid of the oil from your sebaceous glands that gets trapped in your pores throughout the day.

Men’s skin tends to produce more oil which can wreak havoc on your pores. Plus, other impurities get trapped in your skin throughout the day like:

  • Dirt
  • Sweat
  • Bacteria

You can rise with cool to warm water.

Oily Skin

Check out the CeraVe Renewing Salicylic Acid Cleanser or CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser.

The SA Cleanser is great to get clear skin because it clears out clogged pores without providing too much exfoliation and causing irritation.

Dry Skin

Dry skin tends to be more sensitive skin, so you need a mild cleanser. Check out the CeraVe Hydrating Face Wash.

Moisturize Your Skin

Ideally, you would use moisturizer in your skin care routine twice a day!

Moisturizing is essential to:

  • Protect your skin cells
  • Promote healthy barrier function
  • Improve your appearance

When your skin’s barrier is intact, your skin will naturally recover from wounds faster

Check out the CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion for an affordable skincare product for all skin types. Plus, it’s a great moisturizer for both body and face!

Apply an Occlusive

An occlusive like the CeraVe Healing Ointment will lock in moisture to help your skin stay hydrated.

When your skin is hydrated, it can heal faster, which speeds up wound healing!

Depending on your skin type, you may not be able to tolerate an occlusive without breaking out.

So, make sure you cleanse thoroughly first to avoid trapping any bacteria or dirt into your pores.

How to Clear up Dark Spots (Hyperpigmentation)

Localized melanin production is how your skin protects itself. That’s why, when you get a cut and it heals, sometimes you get a dark spot!

There are two main tools to get rid of hyperpigmentation and get clear skin:

  • Exfoliating lotion
  • Broad spectrum sunscreen

Exfoliating Lotion

Amlactin Exfoliating Lotion is formulated with lactic acid. It works by helping your skin get rid of dead skin cells and evening skin tone.

Further, when we turn over dead skin cells, it promotes clear skin by reducing texture issues!

It’s also good for a skin condition like eczema.

As a bonus, it can also help prevent razor bumps and ingrown hair down the line.

Be careful though – this is only suitable for your body, not your face!

Sunscreen

athlete skincare

I like this Elta MD mineral water-resistant sunscreen.

Sunscreen is a controversial topic. However, when you apply sunscreen, you can:

  • Prevent sun damage and even skin cancer
  • Get clear skin
  • Even out your skin tone

You don’t necessarily have to apply it to all exposed areas of your skin either. If you have scarring on your face, you can just apply sunscreen to that area.

Basically, sunscreen will prevent UV rays from exacerbating melanin production which would otherwise make your dark spots harder to get rid of.

Alternatives to Sunscreen

If you don’t want to wear sunscreen, consider trying a wide brimmed hat like this one from Uniqlo and monitoring your body to avoid burning or exacerbating hyperpigmentation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have any shaving technique tips to avoid ingrown hairs?

Yes! Check out my piece, How to Shave Properly.

Do you have any other tips to help with acne?

Yes! Try to avoid touching your face too much. When you do, you spread dirt and bacteria around.

This is a general rule of thumb in general – avoid touching your face if you want clear skin!

Do I have to moisturize twice a day?

You don’t have to do anything. However, moisturizing twice a day is a great way to keep your skin healthy and reduce your chances of premature aging.
