Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Belt System

Choosing to train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is an awesome way to level up your life on so many different planes. Life is like a video game, you get to choose the path you go down. You actively have to fight “bosses” that challenge you but will ultimately level you up over time and get stronger along the way. The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Belt system is like the internal ranking system within a game. Each level comes with its challenges but along the way, you see real progress with your character so you can defeat any “boss” that shows up in your life on or off the mats.

Why Does it Matter?

The system that is in place for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu creates order within the community. When everyone sees someone get promoted to a higher belt or just sees someone with a higher belt in general, they understand the work that it took to get to that point. Some people will look at the mountain of work that needs to be accomplished to reach the top and run. Some will run full speed ahead.

BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU BELT SYSTEMBecause ranking up in Jiu-jitsu is hard it weeds out bad actors pretty quick. There are a ton of lessons that need to be learned internally before you can reach the top of this sport, not to mention the amount of time you need to dedicate to it to get good. Rome was not built overnight and nor will your black belt

How often you train depends on your schedule, level of commitment, and the expectations you have on the sport changing who you are. Most people starting jiu-jitsu are in their late 20s (the average white belt is 28 years old) but many have been introduced to it much younger or much older.

Five Belts That You Can Recieve:

White Belt (Year 0 – Year 2)
Blue Belt (Year 2 – Year 4)
Purple Belt (Year 4 – Year 6)
Brown Belt (Year 6 – Year 8)
Black Belt (Year 7 – Year 10)

Why Is The BJJ System Different Than Other Martial Arts?

The Jiu-Jitsu belt system is the best in place among all martial arts for one sole reason; the difficulty it takes to move up the ranks. No other martial art is as strict when it comes to ranking up students as the sport of jiu-jitsu. On average it takes people to get a black belt after at least a decade of training, no other martial art is methodically promoted in this way.

The Brazilian martial art is the best thing to have been invented since sliced bread. Jiu-Jitsu has changed millions of people’s lives for the better for several reasons. The belt system that is in place gives people the opportunity to level up their real-life avatars just like in a video game. Can you max out your character in your lifetime?
